All About Irises and the Clara B. Rees Iris Society

  • 12:00 : Social Time

  • 12:30 : General Meeting

  • 1:30 : Program Begins

Carol Dahout, president and show chair of the Clara B. Rees Iris Society in San Jose will be our speaker of the month. We will hear about irises and local iris breeder, Clara B. Rees, who made iris history with her iris hybrid "Snow Flurry" -- the world's first ruffled iris. The big ruffled white was a sensation when it bloomed. More important still, it is the world's greatest parent of fine ruffled, tetraploid, tall bearded iris. "Snow Flurry" earned Clara many awards and international honors. It was on the list of 100 favorite iris for 30 years.

Carol’s passion for all things iris developed after attending an iris show and joining CBRIS.  Needing new challenges after her daughter went off to college, Carol became interested in gardening.  She was spurred on after picking up some discarded iris rhizomes that then actually bloomed and were beautiful!  The Clara B. Rees Iris Society was founded in 1929 and named after world renowned hybridizer, Clara B. Rees of Willow Glen.  Carol is looking forward to telling us Clara’s story.

For members only. Non members please bring $5 to attend.
